Chamomile is a small, attractive, hardy perennial creeping plant with double daisy-like flowers in summer and aromatic, feathery, grey-green leaves which have a fresh apple scent when crushed and are commonly made into tea.  The solitary flowers have white ray florets with a yellow disc standing proudly on the top of the stem. This is a plant which can make good ground cover if kept short and is ideal as a lawn substitute.  Chamomile lawns were once very popular in gardens, require minimum care and are still to be found occasionally, although patience is required to allow new plants to knit together.

  • Best surface sown on moist fine grade seed compost in trays undercover.
  • Seed does not need to covered, just pressed gently inot the compost.
  • Best sown between Apr and Jul in unheated greenhouse, or earlier if heat provided.
  • Seeds germinate in 10-14 days with sufficient warmth.
  • Plants will flower in 10-12 weeks from germination.
  • For a lawn  / continuous carpet effect plant 30 cm apart and plants will soon spread.
  • Can be clipped to keep even.
  • Will produce side shoots which can be taken as cuttings and root easily.

Germination notes

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY - Please note seed is a live product which depends on many important related grower skills such as proper planting time, seed depth, and type of soil, watering, proper use of fertilizers, weed controls, fungicides, insecticides, disease free soil, and reasonable weather conditions during the growing period. Germination is affected by such factors as temperature, moisture content, light intensity and contamination of planting media.

Although we do everything possible to get seeds to you in the best possible condition and will provide as much help as possible, these factors are totally outside of our control and once you receive the seeds its over to you. Consequently, we can take no responsibility for the suitability to your local conditions of any variety offered, the indicative cultivation advice provided or ultimately the varieties performance. As such you should seek local advice to carefully ensure your local conditions and the time of season are appropriate to the variety purchased.
