Description : 1 pc. Thailand decoration medal "MEMBER (FIFTH CLASS) OF THE MOST EXALTED ORDER OF THE WHITE ELEPHANT" with replacement ribbon
Obv. Blooming lotus enamel flower encompassing the decorated enamel white elephant
Rev. Enamel royal inscription in Thai Mor Por Ror, the abbreviate of H.M. King Mongkut Rama IV, attached with gilt Maha Mongkut (Great Crown) the emblem of King Mongkut. Hallmark " ประเสริฐศิลป์ " (Prasert Silpa) no date
The member of "The Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant" was established by King Mongkut Rama IV in AD 1861 and to be awarded to royal relatives, government officials and civilians, as well as foreign state-man and civilians, who have contributed to the country outstanding and honorable services. The membership, comprise of 7 class and one special class, is still honored present day but rarely awarded anymore.
The decree requires this medal be returned when awarded higher class or die. In case of nonreturnable, the equivalent amount of 3,152 Baht (US$105) must be submitted for compensation. (2020 update)
