Bored with his role as John Lennon in the musical Beatlemania in February of 1980, Marshall Crenshaw decided to try his hand at songwriting. By August of that year, he was playing his songs at gigs around Manhattan with his drummer brother, Robert and bassist Chris Donato. After singer Robert Gordon recorded three of his tunes, Crenshaw was signed by Warner Brothers and this, his self titled debut album, was released in 1982. It was immediately lauded as a pop masterpiece and Crenshaw was recognized as a first-rate songwriter, singer and guitarist. Gems like "Someday, Someway," "She Can't Dance" and "Not for Me," all remain timeless classics that add up to one of the finest debuts of its day. Intervention Records and Marshall Crenshaw are thrilled to announce the relaunch of Marshall's amazing sophomore effort FIELD DAY on premium 180-gram vinyl as an EXPANDED EDITION double album set!

The Field Day relaunch features ALL-NEW cover art conceived by Crenshaw, and the expanded edition for the first time combines Field Day's original repertoire with a second album comprised of the US Remix EP. Available in the US for the very first time this 12" 45 rpm EP features remixes of several of Field Day's best tunes, including "Our Town," "For Her Love" and a rip-roarin' live cover of "Little Sister."

Produced by Steve Lilywhite, Field Day is Crenshaw at his power-pop best, with addictive hooks, heart-tugging lyrics and beautiful melodies.

Field Day and the US Remix EP are mastered 100% Analog by CoHEARent Audio's Kevin Gray directly from the original analog master tapes! Both 12" records are pressed on dead-quiet 180-Gram vinyl at RTI.

At Marshall Crenshaw's direction Field Day's front cover art is taken not from the original LP, but from the 7" single for the Field Day's hit "Whenever You're On My Mind." Never comfortable with the original cover art, Crenshaw is delighted at this change in art direction, implemented by IR's extraordinary artist Tom Vadakan. The original inner sleeve art and lyrics are expanded into a gorgeous "Old-Style" gatefold printed by Stoughton on heavy stock and film laminated.

"Crenshaw has enjoyed audiophile treatment before, so this is no fluke and the production warrants it. It's the genre itself that seems to elude the sound-uber-alles labels because power pop tends toward the brash, sharp and trebly. High vocals, jangly guitars - it's all here on his second LP, from 1983, like hearing the 1964 British Invasion channelled via Squeeze and ending up in the American Midwest. Eclectic it may be, but this will charm anyone who ever loved Buddy Holly." - Hi-Fi News, LP Of The Month - April 2018, Sound Quality: 90%

Unreleased recordings found in the Warner Music vaults from a live performance at the Keystone in San Francisco, CA, during his 1982 tour!

With roots in classic Soul, British Invasion and Rockabilly, Detroit native Marshall Crenshaw has forged a very original and melodic form of crafting songs over the past 35 plus years in the music business. In the early days, Marshall was compared to Buddy Holly often, due in part to his portrayal of the doomed rock icon in the 1987 film, La Bamba. "Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, He soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself"— The Trouser Press.

Marshall launched his original trio in New York with his brother Robert on drums and Chris Donato on bass, recording Something’s Gonna Happen for Alan Betrock's Shake Records in 1981. Soon afterwards, the trio was signed to Warner Bros. Records and his debut album, simply titled Marshall Crenshaw, was released in 1982 and included his biggest hit, "Someday Someway." Crenshaw’s own version made #36 in 82. It would be Marshall’s only solo Billboard Top 40 Pop hit. On the Cash Box magazine chart, the song went to #31 and reached #25 on Billboard’s Rock Tracks.

Despite his 4 subsequent WB studio albums not including hits, Marshall continued to record in the 1990s and 2000s, as well as write and record with other artists including Gin Blossoms ("‘Til I Hear From You") and the reunited MC5. He penned the title track from the 2007 film Walk Hard starring John C. Reilly, with the song being nominated for a Golden Globe Award. In 2011, he began hosting a radio show called The Bottomless Pit on WFUV in New York, featuring his vast collection of music.

Although Marshall has released many live albums throughout his career, this newly discovered unreleased performance found in Warner Music’s vault was recorded while he was touring in support of his debut release in 1982 and includes several songs seeing their first release on any format.
