popular_mechanics1902: Henry Haven Windsor, the son of a preacher man, published the first edition of Popular Mechanics Magazine. The magazine quickly gains popularity and develops a diverse masculine audience, showcasing an inspiring arsenal of scientists and cultural heavyweights along the way.
Windsor’s mission to deliver a publication, “Written So You Can Understand It” was a lasting success. His plan to deliver scientific and mechanical developments in straightforward language and helpful illustrations capitalized on a century hurtling with exponential speed toward stunning technical achievement. From its inception to its current iteration, the magazine has broken news of everything from the dirigible, wireless telegraph and cars to television, nukes and iPhones.

Windsor was a born journalist. Starting his own newspaper at the tender age of 12. He worked from a tiny office in late 1901 as the publisher, editor and practically the only scribe on Popular Mechanics ‘roster. It was a 16-page weekly priced at a nickel, $1 for annual subscribers.
At the end of 1902 the magazine had amassed nearly 10,000 subscribers. A year later, the circulation climbed to 32,000, and Popular Mechanics exploded to a 100-page monthly magazine. Its circulation today is 1.2 million!

Popular Mechanics hosted award winning freelancers back in the day including Thomas Edison, Babe Ruth, Edward Teller,  Ted Williams, Winston Churchill, Teddy Roosevelt, Jules Verne, Rudyard Kipling and many others, some of whom were lionized in the magazine’s centennial collection The Best of Popular Mechanics1902-2002.
Windsor edited Popular Mechanics until he died in 1924. It was brought beneath the mammoth umbrella of the Hearst Corp. in 1958 and has resided there since and is now published in 28 languages and distributed in more than 100 countries.

About Us

We sell eBooks!

What is an eBook?

An eBook is the digital equivalent of a physical book. An eBook can be read on any desktop computer, or while traveling on devices such as a Laptop, E-Reader, Kindle, I Pad, Palm Pilot, etc. These new devices give you the ability to take an entire library with you, anywhere you go. EBooks come in different formats, with the most common type being the PDF format. If you will be reading this material on a device other than a computer, the format may need to be converted before viewing. There are free conversion programs available on the Internet. As these mobile devices gain widespread popularity, eBooks are also gaining mass appeal because of their portability and affordability. The eBook market is exploding!!! PDF eBooks are viewed on a computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Most likely, this program is already installed on your computer. If not, you can get the latest free version at Adobe’s website. One little known fact about the Acrobat Reader is its ability to "read out loud" an eBook. Although we do not promote our eBooks as audio books, they can be read out loud to you by Acrobat Reader.
