A 9.5" tall HALF-GALLON size beautiful GOLDEN BRONZE YELLOW HONEY AMBER COLOR antique GOOFUS GLASS JAR VASE with a pair of PARROT BIRDS embossed pattern.  This is NOT a reproduction but an ORIGINAL, well over 100 year old genuine antique vase or jar.   It is a hand Blown Into Mold jar (BIM) with a ground-top, dating it all the way back to the 1800's or shortly thereafter.   This style of  vase or jar is referred to as GOOFUS GLASS, a super light, fragile, glass vessel that I believe originally came packed with pickles but then went on to be used as an ornamental vase to hold flower arrangements in.

A super nice looking goofus vase with a selenium sulfate colored finish that manifests itself in a GOLDEN BRONZE YELLOW HONEY AMBER hue.   Most of these that I have seen have a floral embossed pattern, whereas this one has a pair of  Parrots in a floral setting design, molded into the glass.  As a long time collector of antique fruit jars, I recognize that this jar was manufactured in the same fashion.  These early Blown-Into-Mold wide mouth jars (BIM) were hand blown by blow pipe, into a mold, then the blow pipe broken off.  Once the vessel set up, the top was then ground down to smooth and even out the jagged break, and then a tin cap could be fitted over it.  Though novice collectors may mistakenly believe that this is damage or breakage, it actually is the ear-mark for an ORIGINAL TRUE ANTIQUE hand blown threaded and wide mouth glass containers.   We first heard these large jars referred to as Goofus Glass Pickle jars and since then have all heard them referred to as Goofus Glass Vases.   So I believe they were originally packed and sold with pickles in them, and then they went on to be reused as an ornamental glass vase for decoration.   Many of them were painted when they were first made, as part of the design, and a plethora of different mold patterns were made.   They also come in an array of colors, clear, white milk glass, cobalt blue, amber color, turquoise aqua, and a light golden amber like this one is, check it out!
