Another wonderful patterns from the 1940s this time for mens slim-fitting swimming trunks which are knitted in a variation of stocking-stitch, which according to the pattern 'does not lose it's shape but has elasticity', a super item to knit as part of a history of fashion, etc., as 'surprise' gift for the vintage lover or even to be worn by the man in your life! Three hip sizes are offered, 30 stretching to 38 inches, 32½ stretching to 41 inches and 35 stretching to 44 inches (further measurements below). The trunks were originally knitted in a 3-ply (shrink resistant) wool on No.10 and No.13 needles, however, you could try a modern shrink resistant 4-ply as vintage yarns were heavier than modern, but work your tension square to see if a change of needles is needed. A wonderful pattern for you to knit!
