ROGER BLEEP
START = Test your Cobra 148 GTL-DX for full
operation.
Disconnect the 148 from
the Power Supply, Microphone
and Aerial. Remove both top
and bottom 148 Cases.
De-solder Speaker wires if
necessary.
***RED = +12V DC (Hy-Gain V Bleep Power Supply Wire)
Solder the Red Wire to
the 148’s Power On/Off Control.
(Tip; Located on the rear of the 148’s Volume/Squelch control, are two soldered “Tags” with Red or Orange wires attached. Solder the Red Wire from the Roger Bleep board onto the “Tag” located towards the top case of the 148 or closest to the S/RF meter.)
***BLACK = 0V DC (Ground / Negative Wire)
Solder the Black Wire onto any of the
“Screened Metal Tuning Cans” located on the 148’s Chassis.
(Tip: If required scratch the surface of the metal
can to aid tinning/soldering)
***GREEN = TX (PTT Transmit Output Control Wire)
Locate then De-solder the
148’s “PTT” wire from the “TX / PTT” Pin on the Microphone Socket*. Next Solder
the 148’s PTT wire to the Green Wire from the Hy-Gain V Bleep board.
Insulate the soldered connection against short circuits with Heat shrink
wrap or Electrical insulation Tape.
(*Tip; The PTT wire located inside the 148’s Chassis is usually coloured Red on the PB-010AA or coloured Purple on the PB-010AB Chassis.
For easy identification, the location of the 148’s PTT wire and TX Pin on the Microphone socket are labelled
as “TX / PTT”) (Tip; see picture.)
***BLUE = PTT (Press To Talk / Transmit Switch Wire)
Solder the Blue Wire onto the “TX / PTT” (Transmit) Pin on the 148’s Microphone Socket. (Tip; See picture)
***BROWN = RX (Receive Wire)
Solder the Brown Wire to the RX Pin on the 148’s Microphone Socket. (Tip; See picture.)
***YELLOW = AUDIO
(AUDIO Output / MIC Wire)
Solder the Yellow Wire onto the Audio Pin on
the 148’s Microphone Socket. (Tip; See picture)
WHITE
= BLEEP SWITCH
(Hy-Gain V Bleep On/Off Swtich)
Solder the White Wire to Ground (Screened metal can or to the Black Wire) to Enable the Hy-Gain V Bleep to switch On.
(Tip; Leave the White Wire Disconnected to turn the Bleep Off, or use an unused switch, example NB/ANL or HI/LOW Tone if original wiring disconnected or by-passed, to switch the White wire to ground. Insulate the wire against short circuits.)
TIP: Check the picture of the location of the Brown, Blue and Yellow wires from the Hy-Gain V Roger Bleep board connected to the Microphone Socket "inside" the Cobra 148 GTL-DX.
The “TX / PTT” Pin on the 148’s Microphone socket will have either a Red or Purple wire soldered onto it from the 148 Chassis. (wire marked as “PTT” is Purple on the PB-010AB Chassis)
The Red or Purple “PTT” wire from the 148 Chassis has to be De-soldered from the “TX / PTT” Pin on the Microphone socket and soldered to the GREEN WIRE from the Hy-Gain V Bleep board. Insulate the soldered connection against short circuits.
