New-Old-Stock Cinelli "Contact" Handlebars with Anatomic Bends (40 cm x 26.4 mm) with Unique Tubing Shape and End Caps

 Product Description:

This offering is for one set of new-old-stock Cinelli "Contact" handlebars (40 cm...and please note that Cinelli measures their bars from center to center with respect to their width). They are made from a heat treated aluminum alloy tubing (AL 7075 T6) and weigh approximately 270 grams, so heavier then some of today's bars that weigh-in at closer to 200 grams (but our guess is the added weight is probably due to thicker tubing, which possibly translates into a stiffer and more durable offering). We should also note these bars are anatomically designed with a 26.4 mm clamp area and double grooved to handle all forms of vintage aero brake levers and modern dual control brake/shifter levers.

Having said all of the above, probably the most unique feature of these bars is the proprietary shape of the bottom half of the tubing. In other words, from the point where the brake levers mount and continuing down into the drops to the bar-ends...the bar tubing has been manipulated to resemble a somewhat ribbed triangular shape. The tubing...in it's original state...would have measured 23.8 mm in diameter...but this manipulated tubing ends up having a smaller cross section. I am not sure of the exact benefits to this design...possibly easier mounting of brake levers and stems...although the latter to a lesser degree given the top half of the bar tubing still retains it's tradtional round shape. There may also be some favorable stiffness characteristics as a result of this tubing manipulation...but really just speculating at this point. In any event, it's a unique design and so we also want to confirm the proprietary end caps (and less proprietary foam pads for the drops) are included with this offering...just as pictured. Although, please keep in mind the Cinelli branding on these plastic/resin end caps is a padded sticker that may peel off (as the adhesive is old). As a result, you may want to check this and possibly re-glue these padded stickers to help prevent them from falling off during a ride.

Consistent with our other Cinelli handlebar offerings (and in an attempt to further assist with proper fit, we have taken some additional (center-to-center) measurements and noted a reach of 92 mm and a drop of 146 mm (and please refer to our notes below that specify our measurement techniques...in the event someone wants to replicate our approach for comparative purposes).

In terms of condition, these handlebars are new and unused.  The black finish still shows fairly well and there is not much in the way of shopwear (scuffs and scratches).  The few we have left in stock are not perfect, but their overall condition is still nice (and I'll pick through them to ensure the nicest one ships next).

A note about our "reach" and "drop" measurements...
A number of customers have asked about our handlebar measurement techniques, so we thought it was probably appropriate to better define how we go about measuring the handlebars we offer for sale.

The drop...we "stand the bars up" so the only contact point with the table top is the flattened drop area near the bar ends (although we typically have to hold the bars in this position so they do not fall over). From this position, with the drop section of the bars resting on the table top, we measure the vertical distance from the table top to the bottom edge of the bar tubing at the stem clamp area. This provides our version of a center-to-center measurement for the drop.

The reach...keeping the bars in the upright position on the table (as noted above), we push them against the wall facing us, so the outermost section of the bar bend (i.e., the area around where the shifter/brake levers are mounted) is touching the wall. From this position, we measure the horizontal distance from the wall to the front of the stem clamp area. This provides our version of a center-to-center measurement for the reach.

We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale.
