The Last Years of Steam Ploughing - Steam Plough Club
A collection of wonderful photographs (mainly black & white) brought together by The Steam Ploughing Club as part of their 50th Anniversary. The photographs included in this work have been chosen at random from the archives. They are , in no particular order. Some are just snap-shots taken with the simplest of cameras available at the time. In many cases these snap-shots are the only photographic evidence remaining of engines that were subsequently scrapped. Most have not been published before and it is hoped they pass on some of the atmosphere of the day and the job. Sadly most of the original engine owners, whether they be contractors, farmers, drivers and ploughmen are no longer with us.
You can only speculate as to the content of the conversations in the evenings in the living van when the likes of 'Dobin', 'Chute' or just plain 'Charlie' were in full flight. You can almost smell the steam, hot oil and smoke!
