BEAUTIFUL FOSSIL (POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE) CALMONIID TRILOBITE FROM THE DEVONIAN OF BOLIVIA

Description:

 

     

One beautiful fossil:

     

This is a complete Calmoniid trilobite found in the devonian of Belén, Bolivia, over 4.000 mts. above the sea.

     

The measures of the fossil are: 1.25 inches long and 0.8 inches width.

     

This fossil has two pieces, it has been fossilized as nodule that was split in two parts:  positive and  negative.

     

The trilobite shows amazing details, textures and natural colors.

     

The fossil weights 26 gr.

     

The negative part is broken and glued together.

Most Bolivian calmoniids occur in three formations localized in distinct geographic areas: a) The Belén Formation (Belén-La Paz- Sicasica region of the West Bolivian altiplano); b) The Icla Formation (Icla-Padilla region, sierras Subandinas of central Bolivia), and c) The Gamoneda formation (Tarija region, southern Bolivia).
        The basal portion of all three formations is considered to be time-equivalent. The total stratigraphic range of Calmoniidae in Bolivia is Late Silurian to Middle Devonian.
