Product Description:

This offering is for a new-old-stock Shimano RSX HyperGlide 7-speed freehub (model FH-A410). This is a late 90's freehub that is decent quality, but probably best suited for sport/fitness/commuter applications. Detailed specifications include the following...

  • Hole count: 32H

  • Locknut dimensions: 130 mm

  • Cluster compatibility: 7-speed HyperGlide cassette (and includes compact hub body design, so will accept an 11T small sprocket)

  • Axle type: hollow type with Shimano branded quick release skewer

  • Weight: 406 grams

  • Other specifications: For those that want to know the specific hub body length (or said another way...the length of the splines on the hub body), we measure them to be 31 mm. I also want to confirm the freehub's compatibility with an 11T HyperGlide sprocket. An 11T HyperGlide sprocket typically requires a HyperGlide compact hub body (where the splines end prior to the very edge of the hub body)...and this freehub has this compact design.

Shimano literature further indicates this model freehub has a one-pieced forged aluminum alloy design...so a strong and durable offering that should hold up well under fairly stressful conditions.. This same reference material also indicates the cup-n-cone bearing design is enhanced to include some sealing properties that should help reduce internal wear. Now I will be the first to admit these sealing properties are not on par with more current cartridge bearing designs, but I believe Shimano's claim still holds some merit.

As for condition, the handful of these units we acquired show a fair amount of shopwear (scuffs and scratches).  Functionally they are fine...they still spin fairly well, I see no evidence of lacing and the hub body splines/threading all look okay.  Lastly, the only Shimano RSX identifier on these freehubs is in the form of a small sticker placed at the center section (between the flanges).  Unfortunately, most of these stickers have peeled off (or are beginning to peel off).  I realize it's just a sticker, but I wanted to confirm that most of these units do not have their RSX sticker.  Now the non drive-side dust cover is printed with labeling that includes the words "Shimano" and "Japan", which would be consistent with a Shimano RSX component of this vintage...coming out of Japan that is...but that's about it in terms of product identifiers. Listing Update...This is my last one and I can confirm the pictures have been updated to show this last unit that will sell/ship. I also want to confirm the quick release skewer is not Shimano branded (so not a factory match to this freehub). There is actually no branding on this skewer, but the fit and function is still fine. I suppose I should also confirm the skewer is new-old-stock and is (frankly) in better cosmetic condition than the freehub.

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
