2005 ROYAL CANADIAN MINT
TERRY FOX

EXTREMELY LOW POPULATION LOONIE

NGC CERTIFIED

MS66 !!

This auction includes an NGC certified MS66 Loonie commemorating Terry Fox in 2005.  On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox set out to make his dream of a cancer-free tomorrow come true. On the 25th anniversary of the start of the Marathon of Hope, the Royal Canadian Mint proudly honoured this Canadian hero with a special circulation $1 coin. While Terry is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in Terry Fox runs held around the world every year, and the Terry Fox Loonie is a poignant tribute to his legacy, his courage and inspiration. After losing his leg to cancer at the age of 18, Terry Fox developed a deep desire to do his part to help end the suffering of Canadians with cancer. His Marathon of Hope was the culmination of that desire. For 143 days and 5,373 kilometres – averaging nearly 40 kilometres a day, the equivalent of a full marathon – Terry, through his determination and courage, stirred the pride of a nation. And while Terry's plan to run across Canada was tragically cut short, the momentum of his Marathon continues, with hundreds of millions of dollars raised for cancer research through related initiatives.
