1997 Land Rover Defender 90 station wagon, S/N SALDV3247VA121736, Coniston Green with grey vinyl, full time 4 wheel drive with high-low range, automatic transmission, air conditioning, Freestyle alloy wheels, factory glass sunroof, 4 side facing seats with seat belts, original owner’s manual and maintenance booklet, spare keys, and one of just 334 1997 Coniston Green D90 station wagons imported by Land Rover North America.

Recent work includes the following; O/F change with new wipers, alternator and serpentine belt replaced, coolant change, replacement of the intake hose between the MAS and throttle body, replace front brake calipers, pads, and lines, renew brake fluid, service both differentials and driveshaft grease fittings, change transmission fluid and filter, replace radiator due to leakage, free up heater levers and blower motor lever, repair damaged wiring to blower motor, replace rotted rear door with good used unit, swapping over components as needed, replace illuminated shift selector, replaced seat bottom, replace manifold gaskets and valve cover gasket to address oil leak.

Mechanically, the car is really quite nice.  It starts immediately, idles smoothly, and shifts through the gears without any unusual noises or clunkiness.  Braking is drama free.  There is not pulling or thumping from the brakes.  Heat controls and the blower motor work well.  The sunroof does not leak and both the windows can be raised and lowered as they should.  The vehicle is fitted with a modern stereo with auxiliary plug.  All the speakers sound good.  The right rear speaker is missing its cover.  The original radio is included.

Issues that remain; the left rear brake light is inoperative.  I have replaced the bulb and it works for awhile but the socket assembly is mostly melted and distorted. Included in the sale is a brand new set of LED tail lamps.  The A/C system is functional in that the compressor comes on and the blower for the A/C works. However, charging the system revealed the condensor cooling fan is inoperative.  Additionally, the system did not hold a charge, indicating a refrigerant leak.  The CHECK ENGINE light is on.  Don't know why, don't care. The left and right interior door lock mechanisms are broken and the door cards are not in the best of shape.

Cosmetics: Well, I'd say challenged, to say the least.  The car is quite presentable from a distance, however, closer inspection reveals corrosion, chips, nicks, dings, scrapes, rust, and corrosion - everywhere.  The bottom corners of the doors are rusted out.  The cargo door is in very good shape, having been replaced with a very nice used unit.  The seats are worn but serviceable.  The center console lid is cracked.  The headliner is stained and drooping in placed.  The underside is covered in rust.  However, it all appears to be quite solid.  Even the floors are solid.  The right front wing is not painted.  Not sure where the paint went.  The rest of the paint on the vehicle is original. Where the roll cage meets the body is in good shape.  The bulkhead is solid.

Items of note: Though not pictured, I do have two brand new Exmoor fold-n-lock rear seats that can be provided with the car.  These seats can be provided to the new owner at a negotiated price as I paid over $2k for them.  Also, not pictured but included at buyers preference, is a Brownchurch roof rack with six new mounting clamps.  The roof rack is in poor condition and should be repainted.

Overall, this is a crusty, rough truck, but it runs great and is really quite reliable. This truck represents a reasonable opportunity to get a desirable model year NAS truck that one can use as intended without worrying about the cosmetics or your outrageous investment.
