Allan Jones was an American actor and tenor who starred in many film musicals during the 1930s and 1940s. 
Best-known of these were Show Boat (1936), The Firefly (1937) in which he sang "Donkey Serenade" which
became a signature song throughout his career. Today he is remembered as the romantic straight man to the
Marx Brothers in A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races. He and actress Irene Hervey were married 
from 1936 to 1957; their son is pop singer Jack Jones.
