Description

A late 19th century antique musical movement, made in France.  Impressed below the fly wheel "J.G.M. & C" (we have had JGM movements before, and some are also marked 'France'), it is also impressed underneath the comb: "M" and "39465".  It was rescued from a very damaged Victorian CdV photo album.  It plays two melodies, both have quite a lot of intricate notes in the melodies, making them very lively tunes with a lot of high 'bell' trills, one I think is "Home Sweet Home", but I do not know the other.  The movement is fitted with an on/off lever however, the tip doesn't quite slip into the hole on the cog to stop the movement, it also doesn't have a spring.  A further switch behind the cylinder can be used to switch the tunes to play either one continuously, or to play both one after the other.  It has its winding key.

Condition / Defects:

The movement is in very good condition; and the melodies play very well, although there are a few pins which are bent slightly.  As mentioned above: the lever requires adjustment and possibly a spring.  Please supersize the photos to see better.

Dimensions:

Approx: base 3½" x 2" (90mm x 52mm), length of cylinder 2 3/8" (60mm).
