A 4 1/2" tall rectangular-shaped light AQUA-MARINE / TURQUOISE colored antique PATENT (quack) MEDICINE bottle.  This is a very early hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating it back into the latter 1800's.

• Bottle Embossed: "DR. KILMER'S - AUTUMN LEAF EXT. / FOR / UTERINE INJECTION - BINGHAMTON, N. Y." 

• Condition:   This bottle is in good solid condition.  It has heavy stain (patina) and wear, but NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc.    
  

• Age: An early hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. late 1800's.

Back in the 1800's, old Dr. Kilmer was the King of Quack medicine concoctions. His most notorious formula was the Great Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root Kidney Liver and Bladder Cure Specific, but all of them had about the same ludicrous sounding titles and claims. The Autumn Leaf Extract for Uterine Injection is no exception. What is so great about these bottles is that these were the real thing, not some recently made up title to mock the old pill peddlers of yesteryear. No, Dr. Kilmer was trying to be professionally credible by giving his products highly scientific titles for his day, names that would reverberate through the households reflecting the era of progress that he found himself right in the middle of and that he liked to think of himself as a great contributor towards. Yet by 1906 the Pure Food and Drug Administration wasn't seeing things quite the way old Dr. Kilmer did and not too long after that saw the end of his quack remedy's and cures. Evidently his Uterine Injection concoction may not of even lasted that long as these are scarce bottles today which means it was something that was rarely needed, or, more probably, it was just a dud and didn't even last long enough for that government agency to shut it down.   Either way, it is not a commonly seen bottle today, it is a scarce bottle from the Kilmer line. Yet with a title like 'AUTUMN LEAF EXTRACT' it sounds like it would take off all over again if it was offered in today's competitive market as an organic product that remedied female complaints.  Truly this is a great antique patent medicine bottle from the 1800's, check it out!
