The cross, sometimes called an 8-point Maltese cross, is the cross of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, is used by the International Association of Fire Fighters.
The cross is a symbol of firefighters' willingness to make great sacrifices including risking their own lives, in protecting others from the ravages of fire.
