Up for auction is a 14-1/4" long overall Pipe Tomahawk. Over the years this lefoi head has been cleaned heavily and resharpened. The handle has been painted red and looks like it has a wood or a bone insert. It also has been covered with shelacc. On eastern hawks, they usually receive embellishments over the years and this one is no different. The eye of this hawk has had pewter put into it and smoothed over. There is remnants of red paint in that area. All of these embellishments are common to eastern hawks. The handle of this is relief carved to where there is a spine on the top of the handle near the head. The bottom has a bone insert in it for the mouthpiece. This head is very similar to the one pictured on plate 59 on page 45 of Baldwins Book on Tomahawks. The head is 7" long by 2-3/8" wide at the bit. It sold as lot 115 in the Wolfe Museum.
