Here is view #16 from Henry Brown of Santa Fe New Mexico. This is a rear view of San Miguel Chapel. Few people question whether or not the San Miguel Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the oldest Church in the United States, but many do question just how old it is. This is an unusual view as it is from the back side. Two people are standing behind the chapel. They might be doing some repair work. W. Henry Brown (1844-1886) was a stereo photographer active in the American Southwest. Brown joined his father in Santa Fe in 1869. In 1880 he partnered with G.C. Bennett, and formed Bennett & Brown (active 1880s). Bennett and Brown were prolific New Mexico stereoview photographers, producing over 550 views that appeared (for the most part) as part of one of their four series. I believe this photograph was before he partnered with Bennett. The pen text is not on Bennett and Brown images. This view is from their Views in New Mexico Series. This image does have some light soiling and edge wear.
