Vintage, autograph letter on Easter card to Darling Kate, in green pen, no date, 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" Signed: "Tamara Toumanova" Condition: very good Tamara Toumanova was a Russian-born American ballerina; known as "The Black Pearl of the Russian Ballet". In 1932 she joined George Balanchine's Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and performed in ballet for the next 40 years. She appeared in 6 Hollywood films between 1944 and 1970, always playing dancers: Days of Glory (1944), Russian prima ballerina Anna Pavlova in Tonight We Sing (1953), French dancer Gaby Deslys in Deep in My Heart (1954), a dance scene with Gene Kelly in Invitation to the Dance (1956), the lead ballerina in Alfred Hitchcock's Torn Curtain (1966), and Russian ballerina Madame Petrova in Billy Wilder's The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970).
