As one of the last strongholds of the steam locomotive, South Africa which still utilises steam traction to a large extent, has become a focal point for steam enthusiasts from all over the world.
Mindful of this, the Publicity and Travel Department of the South African Railways organizes special tours for such enthusiasts to enable them to travel the length and breadth of the country, visiting various locomotive yards and depots in the course of a good holiday and gives them the opportunity of clicking their cameras to their hearts' content.
To whet the appetite the brochure also includes photographs and potted biographies of some of the steam stalwarts which have done yeoman service with the South African Railways over the years.
