The USA in 2017: After the collapse of the global economy, the land of opportunity has degenerated into a police state. Food is scarce and the totalitarian regime censors art, music and communication. The popular game show “The Running Man” is intended to keep the population happy and suppress their desire for freedom. In the sadistic show, convicted criminals are chased through a deadly arena by professional human hunters. Whoever manages to escape from the hunting area will have freedom and luxury. The innocently convicted police officer Ben Richards is also forced to take part in the cruel show, which no contestant has yet survived.
