description

Calcite, also Calcite or Calcite called, is a very common mineral and the namesake of the Calcite group within the mineral class of "carbonates (and relatives)". A particularly high birefringence is characteristic of calcite crystals. The light that is not incident along the optical axis of the crystal is split into two bundles of light, an ordinary and an extraordinary ray. Different refractive indices apply to each of the two beams due to different polarization directions. This is shown by an object observed through a clear calcite crystal appearing twice when viewed from a certain angle. This is a very useful property for identifying calcite and is also referred to by the common name Double spar founds. Because of this property, calcite is also described as "anisotropic".

Double spar crystals may have been made early on used in seafaring for navigation (Sonnenstein), as these special properties enable the exact determination of the position of the sun when the sky is overcast.

Colours

mostly colorless, yellow, milky white, gray, pink, red, blue, green, Braun to black.

Advice to doctor / alternative practitioner

Doctor, alternative practitioner
Healing stones are not a substitute for going to a specialist (e.g. doctor, naturopath, etc.). In case of illness, please consult your trusted specialist. After stone healing, healing stones should provide us with additional support, which Mother Nature is happy to provide as a supplement, but in no case replace a doctor's visit. We would like to point out again that the effects of minerals and precious stones described in stone healing, colloquially referred to as healing stones, have neither been scientifically nor medically proven or recognized.
