Description

August H Santistevan, air brush painting for a Merle Norman Cosmetics Studios newspaper ad entitled Night Eyes, with an image of 5 1/4 by 9 inches in a 11 by 14 1/2 inch matte, in excellent condition.  Overlaying the painting is a protective sheet of black paper with a note on the bottom indicating this is a newspaper ad.  August  Santistevan was a professional graphic designer in Los Angeles who was contracted by Merle Norman to do print ads for the company.  This is one of the ads he did for the company.  The painting comes from a recent estate sale of the Santistevan family, where his wife told me about his graphic arts career.

August H Santistevan was born in 1944 and died in 2015.  In addition to being a graphic artist, he was part of the Mexican American or Chicano art revolution in Los Angeles and took part in many important exhibitions including ¡Adelante! Mexican American Artists:60s & Beyond that was held at the Forest Lawn Museum, Glendale, California from September 10, 2011 to January 2, 2012.
