Minton Hollins Astra Ware Handled Vase

This stunning Minton Hollins Astra Ware handled vase has a beautiful running satin glaze in shades of purple and red. It measures 21cm / 8.25" tall and dates to circa 1920. Early impressed M & H 'moon and star' mark to base. Unfortunately one of the handles has been broken off and repaired, however the repair has been done well and the vase still displays well, please see last three photos for details. No other chips, cracks or restoration, just some slight surface wear.

Minton Hollins & Co, of Stoke-on Trent, was set up in 1845 as a subsiduary of Mintons, to take over their encaustic tile production. Due to fall in demand for tiles during the First World War they developed a sideline in art-pottery with striking glaze effects, and the highly acclaimed 'Astra Ware' range was produced from 1918 until at least the late 1920s.
