Joan Lorring (born Madeline Ellis) was an American film and television actress. She received

 an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for role of the role of Bessie opposite 

Bette Davis in The Corn is Green (1945). She also had memorable roles opposite Sydney 

 Greenstreet and Peter Lorre in The Strangers (1946) and The Verdict (1946).
