From 1992 to 1998, cities or organizations had the right to mint currencies on the basis of the future European currency.
These coins were legal tender and exchanged at 6 francs fifty cents the Ecu (or euro), it was to used the population to this new currency.
These currencies had a limited circulation period, usually a month, and had to be approved by the State, which alone has the right to beat currency.
Europe has forced France to stop this practice and all strikes were suspended on July 31, 1998.
These strikes were held often following events and were due to municipalities, administrations, associations or voluntary societies, sometimes for advertising purposes.
