Features:
1) The 6.6L Duramax utilizes an intake air
temperature (IAT) sensor incorporated into the mass airflow (MAF)
sensor. However, LBZ and LMM generations of the Duramax (2006 to 2010
model years) feature a second IAT sensor located in the intake bridge
beneath the turbocharger mouthpiece.
2) Although the IAT sensor can become dirty from
exposure to oil vapors and exhaust soot, failures are typically the
result of an internal malfunction. Cleaning and reinstalling the IAT
sensor rarely eliminates related DTCs in our experience, however it is
an option for those hoping to circumvent replacement costs.
