Includes Preface to the first edition written in 1936 and the fourth edition dated, Cape Town, September,1950. Blue cloth with black lettering to spine. Pictorial dust jacket in a clear protective cover. Dust jacket a little dusty looking with chipping and small loss to spine ends, corners. and small loss (20mm) to rear top edge. Faint previous owners initials in pen to front top edge. Book with a minor fading to edges and spine ends. Corners slightly bumped. Previous owners pen signature  to front endpaper, otherwise in very good clean, sound. and bright condition.

A good deal of revision to the text was necessary in this fourth edition as 5 years had elapsed from the previous third edition. A number of additional Afrikaans names have been included, and a section on changes in local bird life has been added to the introductory chapter. A short account of the bird life of the garden route has been added at the end of the book to the four other little chapters of hints for travellers visiting particular districts.  (from preface)
