Willie Dixon is the man who changed the style of the blues. As a songwriter and producer, the man was a genius. If you wanted a hit song, you went to Willie Dixon. Played it like he said play it, and sing it like he said sing it, and you damn near always had a hit! Blues has a deep influence on Rock and Roll. And if you walk through the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and look at the biggest artist through its history there is a pattern. Many of those bands given rock god status have covered and hit big with a Willie Dixon song. As a blues man who wanted people to hear the blues he says he welcomed groups like Led Zeppelin and artists like Eric Clapton to use his music to reach audiences he believed were out of his reach. This man gave so much to music without asking for anything in return.

I'm guessing you know who Willie Dixon because your debating purchasing this video, but incase you don't know he is one of the fathers of what rock and roll has become. While the world was going crazy for the Rolling Stones, he was who The Stone were crazy about. Who Led Zepplin played while relaxing in the studio, and how many other bands found their sound. As a fan I enjoyed this more than even I thought possible. The production value wasn't the best, but I believe considering the date between taping and release its not worse than it could be. Things are sometimes cut short which tells me that part of the performance didn't make it through the destruction of time. Like the painting of George Washington in the White House is torn on the bottom, the missing parts of the show doesn't damage the over all performance. As is, this is a great DVD to watch, such a strong outpour of talent from a performer on the eve of his career. A must for any fan, young or old. Many singers of all type loss their presence on stage. Usually time is the worst enemy of a singer, but not for a blues man, because a blues man strength comes from the blues, and yet a blues man can never conquer the blues, he understand it a little more each day.
