Description

Original hand painted acetate cel and background of Popeye about to be hit by Bluto in a Roman location, about 15 by 20 inches overall (the acetate is about 10 ½ by 12 ½ inches), in excellent condition.   The acetate has been overlaid on the background with masking tape but over time, the paint on the back has stuck in several places to the background board.  This item was acquired with several similar cels and backgrounds that were created by animator Joan F. O'Brien presumably to be used as outer covers of DVDs, illustrations in printed brochures or posters for unproduced animated films.  Each piece of animation art has a significant empty space for the addition of printed titles, descriptions, or credits.  O'Brien was employed as an animator in the 1980s at Filmation before the company went out of business in 1989.  What is left is a stunning piece of art that will make a wonderful framed picture.  The two characters resemble Popeye and Bluto that were first developed by Max Fleischer in the 1930s.
