Description

Original hand painted acetate cel and background painted on illustration board of Popeye as Aladdin on a flying carpet about to eat his spinach with an evil Jafar and his magic lamp lurking in front of him, about 15 by 20 inches overall (the acetate is about 10 ½ by 12 ½ inches), in excellent condition.   The acetate has been taped to the background but over time, the paint on the back has stuck in several places to the background board.  This item was acquired with several similar cels and backgrounds that were created by animator Joan F. O'Brien presumably to be used as outer covers of DVDs, illustrations in printed brochures or posters for animated films.  Each piece of animation art has a significant empty space for the addition of printed titles, descriptions, or credits.  O'Brien was employed as an animator in the 1980s at Filmation before the company went out of business in 1989.  What is here is a stunning piece of art that will make a wonderful framed picture.  Popeye resembles the animated character first developed by Max Fleischer in the 1930s.
