The tale of a families struggles while settling in the West. A passage from the book to show how poor and how they struggled to make a home in the West "On our way back to Idaho, we were getting pretty low on funds. We saw a big skunk in the road and knew we could get five dollars for his pelt. We decided that we weren't that desperate. We ran out of gas several miles from the nearest town. A guy came by in a truck and offered to push us to the next town. They ran out of money in Boise, Idaho. By selling their new spare tire, they continued to Yakima Washington where once again they were out of money. Gail telegraphed his friend in Hoquiam for five dollars. The money came but Gail couldn't prove  his identity as Missouri didn't have a drivers license. While they waited for some gas money, the seven of them pushed the car down to a creek where they camped. Finally some money came...." This whole book is filled with similar hardship tales. A pretty good read and will make you thankful for what you have.
