A truly stunning fabric!!  It is a document - a perfect reproduction of a textile at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was originally manufactured ca 1783. It is called “Battle Between the Heros and the Superb”. The Met’s description says “The subject is one of the battles that took place in 1782 and 1783 in the Indian ocean between a French squadron under the Baille de Suffren in his flag ship the Héroes and an English force under Sir Edward Hughes in the Superb, in which the French had the advantage.” The manufacturer, Petitpeirre et Cie is a very famous Toile de Jouy textile firm. Their toiles are represented in museums worldwide.

A gorgeous toile with very fine detail on a beautiful quality white cotton.  It was previously used as curtains which have been disassembled.  Note that the color looks ecru in some of the photos, but it is really white.  We have additional pieces of this fabric if you need it - just ask.```

The condition is excellent, previously used.  There might be a couple of tiny marks on it which really don't detract.  Hand laundered and pressed.
