Carrera Eyewear, hailing from Austria, has been a pioneer in design and ingenuity since 1956. Inspired by the Carrera Panamericana Auto Race, Originator Wilhelm Anger set out to devise eyewear to

suit the sporting and fashionable.

The "Optyl" Material was created and patented in 1964, which became the cornerstone of Carrera manufacturing. Weighing in at approximately 20% less in weight when compared to cellulose-based

polymers like acetate and nitrate, as well as animal-based/naturally sourced materials. It is a heat-hardened "plastic" which resulted in a memory effect that provided permanent elasticity and

dimensional

stability. Providing a reduction in allergic reaction as well as an improved fit, it was/is ideal for the sports-oriented development programs.

In 1974, in Traun, Austria, the headquarters were established and the company went public as Carrera International. Around this period, the auto designer Ferdinand Alexander partnered with Carrera to

develop the sunglasses collection Porsche by Carrera. Designer Jan Matthias providing a vast portion of the collection as one of the staff designers, Porsche by Carrera gained the attention of other

companies like Boeing and Christian Dior in the following decade. It was in the 1980s that Carrera saw tremendous growth with sponsorships and commissions from other companies like the

aforementioned Boeing Aviation.

Carrera was purchased by the eyewear conglomerate, Safilo Group, S.p.A. out of Padova, Italy where it moved the Carrera headquarters in 1996.

Carrera carved its mark into the annals of eyewear lore with such significance and essence. With its recognizable "C" in the bridge, and stylish and sporting "Carrera" upon its temples, Carrera never

failed to impress. Finding its prowess in various films like Wonderland with Val Kilmer and Scarface with Al Pacino; Porsche by Carrera can be found in Black Mass with Johnny Depp and Beverly

Hills Cop II with Eddie Murphy. Such notoriety is simply something that can't be ignored.
