You are buying an A4 modern print of the original pattern and not the finished item.

This super 1940s crochet pattern shows you how to create two pair of sandals: flat or wedge, to fit your own foot size.

The FLAT- SOLE sandal was originally constructed from nine cord sewing thread similar in thickness to thin string (a photo in the pattern shows the actual thickness of the thread and will be accurately sized in your copy for you to purchase a similar item from your thread stockist) and is used double throughout the pattern. The stitch used is a very firm stitch which is (according to the pattern) 'a kind of double double crochet stitch' (d.d.c.).

The WEDGE-HEEL sandal, has a buckle fastening a crochet string sole, cork wedge heels made from cork soles stuck together (pattern also says you can make your own from cardboard stuck together). Interestingly, the pattern also points out that the sandal uppers (which are made from either dishcloth cotton, or thread and yarn of the same thickness (an accurately sized photo showing the thread thickness will be enclosed, as mentioned above), could be sewn to bought sandal soles if you feel that making your own 'wedge' may not be for you :0)

However, do check you tension when working either sandal to make sure your chosen thread etc. is following the tension instructions in the pattern and change hook if needed.

Soles and buckles can be obtained from the haberdashery sellers on ebay.
