"Like Goodfellas and Boogie Nights before it, American Hustle's music celebrates the epic feel of '70s pop, rock, and disco and uses it to give its story extra heft. David O. Russell's tale of con men, Feds, and the mob has a lighter touch than either of those two movies, however, and this is reflected in the soundtrack's song choices. More than a few of these tracks are by Electric Light Orchestra as well as Jeff Lynne on his own, and the whimsical yet driving sound of "10538 Orchestra," "Long Black Road," and "Stream of Stars" lends a tongue-in-cheek tone supported by Tom Jones' "Delilah" and Chris Stills' "Live to Live." The album touches on some of the decade's definitive songs (Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," Wings' "Live and Let Die," Donna Summer's "I Feel Love") but never sounds like a prepackaged hits-of-the-'70s collection, due in large part to unique choices like Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' gritty version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" and Mayssa Karaa's otherworldly Arabic interpretation of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," which is so striking that it's one of the finest songs on an album packed with big names. One of the most defining cinematic moments of the mid 1990s
was when the counter-culture film Pulp Fiction was released! Pulp Fiction is the killer
soundtrack which includes several slabs of vinyl perfection like Kool & The
Gang’s dynamite Jungle Boogie, Al Green’s sensual Let’s Stay
Together and Dusty Springfield’s
gospel-like classic Son Of A Preacher Man.
The film contains a mix of American rock and roll, surf
music, pop and soul. The soundtrack is equally untraditional, consisting of
nine songs from the movie, four tracks of dialogue snippets followed by a song,
and three tracks of dialogue alone. The album reached No. 21 on the Billboard
200 and the single, Urge Overkill's cover of the Neil Diamond song "Girl,
You'll Be a Woman Soon" peaked at No. 59.
Tarantino used an eclectic assortment of songs by various
artists. Notable songs include Dick Dale's now-iconic rendition of
"Misirlou", which is played during the opening credits. Tarantino
chose surf music for the basic score of the film because, "it just seems
like rock 'n' roll Ennio Morricone music, rock 'n' roll spaghetti Western
music." In addition to the surf-rock rendition of "Misirlou",
other notable songs include "Flowers on the Wall" by the Statler
Brothers and "Bustin' Surfboards" by The Tornadoes, from 1962, which
had been one of the first instrumental surf songs to hit the United States
music charts after notables such as "Walk--Don't Run" by the
Ventures.
The Orange County Register described why the soundtrack of
Pulp Fiction stood out from all the others: "Unlike so many soundtracks,
which just seem to be repositories for stray songs by hit acts regardless of
whether they fit the film's mood, Tarantino's use of music in Reservoir Dogs
and Pulp Fiction exploded with a brash, Technicolor, pop-culture intensity that
mirrored the stories he was telling."

1987 was a big year for Los Lobos and a huge blockbuster movie called La Bamba based on the life and times of the late great Richie Valens. Its success truly made way for a number one soundtrack companion LP, which rode to the top of both the sales and airplay charts with multiple format hit records for over a year.
The box office smash featured some of the biggest songs of that year with Los Lobos’s #1 smash hit single La Bamba as well as seven more Los Lobos rockin’ champions like Come On Lets Go, Framed, and the torch ballad Richie Valens was so well remembered for, Donna. the unique history and contemporary legacy of New York City's landmark Apollo
Theater. The soundtrack album is produced by the film's music supervisors,
Grammy®-nominated Dondi Bastone and TunesMap founder G. Marq Roswell, and
mastered by Ian Sefchick at Capitol Studios. The album includes music by Ella
Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie,

THE APOLLO documentary film weaves together archival clips
of music, comedy and dance performances from an astonishing list of legendary
talents that includes James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Lauryn
Hill, and Richard Pryor; behind-the-scenes verite footage of the team that
makes the theater run; and interviews with such artists as Angela Bassett,
Common, Jamie Foxx, Patti LaBelle, Smokey Robinson, and Pharrell Williams.
Williams also examines the current state of race in America, following the 2018
multimedia adaptation of Ta-Nehisi Coates' bestselling book Between the World
and Me as it comes together on the theater's grand stage. In the film, Williams
explores not only the struggle of black lives in America, but the role that art
plays in that struggle, and the essential part the Apollo continues to play in
the cultural conversation.
THE APOLLO: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack brings
together timeless music by many greats who have taken the stage at the Apollo
with stories and memories from those who were there. The soundtrack provides an
intimate audio experience, interspersing new and classic recordings – Charles
Mingus' "Take the 'A' Train," Ella Fitzgerald's "How High The Moon,"
Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going
On," and James Brown's "Say It Loud-I'm Black and I'm Proud" and
"Lost Someone" (from his first Live at the Apollo album), to name a
few – with interview excerpts from the film from those who made it happen
show-after-show, as well as authors, artists, and community leaders who share
their insights. Excerpted segments from the film include brief comments from
President Barack Obama, Angela Bassett, Pharrell Williams, and more.
Throughout the soundtrack album, THE APOLLO's music
composer, Emmy and five-time Grammy-winning Loma Vista Recordings artist Robert
Glasper, takes listeners through several interviews with original score
elements. The soundtrack also presents score pieces by composer Todd Griffin in
this context, including an excerpt from the film spotlighting the stage
adaptation of Coates' Between the World and Me.

Released in 2017, Legacy’s Stranger Things: Music from the Netflix Original Series
comprised primarily of 1980s hits and classic tracks used in the show’s first two seasons

the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media category at the 61st Annual Grammy
Awards.
Grammy and Emmy nominee Nora Felder has served as music supervisor for
Stranger Things since the show’s inception and was nominated for a Music Supervision
Grammy the first year the category was recognized by the Academy of Television Arts &
Sciences. Felder collaborated with Stranger Things Matt and Ross Duffer and 2x
Grammy nominated Legacy Compilation Producer Timothy J. Smith to create the
ultimate sonic companion to the third season of the supernatural hit series. Across its
first two seasons, Stranger Things has received 31 Emmy Award nominations, including
Outstanding Drama Series. Stranger Things has also earned four Golden Globe Award
nominations, and won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by

Stranger Things 3 premieres on Netflix, July 4, 2019. It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and
