Rare Antique Victorian Bohemian Czech Franz Welz Aventurine Spatter Glass Lidded Jar c1890
Here on offer is a
gorgeous antique aventurine splatter glass lidded jar by the Czech maker Franz Welz, dating to
c1890.
The Franz Welz, also
known as Antonienhutte, glassworks was founded in Bohemia in 1728 and was in
production until the late 1930s. Welz was noted for a wide range of colourful
glass, including splatter and tango glass.
This is a gorgeous
1890's Bohemian plum red,
green, yellow and white blown glass jar and lid, made using a technique known
as "Splatter" or "Spatter" glass, with
green coloured copper Aventurine inclusions,
and applied wrap around rigaree ruffle. The glass is hand blown in opaque white to enhance the colour, then rolled
in coloured glass and metallic powder to produce the glittery effect and finally encased in clear glass.
It has a clear glass lid knob produced during the hand blowing process.
There are some nibbles
around the rim of the base and lid, but these are hidden by the design and by
their position. The piece displays well.
This
gorgeous lidded jar is offered in good antique condition, it measures about 14cm tall
by 11cm at the widest point and weighs 384g
This
pot would make a great addition to a themed collection.
Please see my pictures for the details of the condition.
