The ALICE Pack Universal Size consists of a Pouch with draw cord closure and Five outside pockets. The ALICE pouch has a separate pocket to accommodate the Radio. Tie down cords and D rings inside the pouch can be used to shorten the pack when it is not to be filled to capacity. The pouch flap has a pocket that can be opened by pulling two tabs apart. Small flat items can be carried in this pocket. Pressing flap sides together closes it. Hangers are also provided for carrying individual equipment. The ALICE Field Pack is carried on the soldiers back by attaching to the pack frame.

An envelope pocket is located at the top, back of the ALICE pack and padded with spacer cloth, into which the field pack frame is inserted when the field pack is used on the field pack frame. Buckles and straps at each side near the bottom are used for anchoring the field pack to the field pack frame. Two rectangular wire loops located at the top back of the field pack and D rings on each side at the bottom of the field pack are used to provide shoulder strap attachment when the field pack is carried without the field pack frame.

ALICE Frame with its associated straps is a component of the ALICE Rucksack system and is used with the ALICE pack. The ALICE LC-2 frame is structured of aluminum tubing. It is 50.8 cm high and 31.1 cm wide. There are two, aluminum, horizontal members made from flat stock which extend from one side of the frame to the other and are riveted to the aluminum tubing. One, aluminum, vertical member, also made from flat stock, is riveted to the top and the bottom of the frame. Toward the top of the frame, this vertical piece and the aluminum tubing are angled toward the wearer's back. Two metal loops are attached to the top, horizontal, tubular portion of the frame. These are used to retain one end of the shoulder straps. There is also a grommet at the lower portion of each side of the frame through which the other end of each shoulder strap passes and is secured.
