"
The ruler of Poland, king Bolesław Chrobry" - rare !

Medal from the series of Polish kings by Witold Korski.

The series was issued in 1972, but the medal with the image of the first Polish ruler was not minted until 1973. The original idea was to present only the images of the rulers who minted their own coins on which the portrait of the king was placed.
 Description
Boleslaw Chrobry - issue number 1, 1973, diameter 70 mm

- patinated tombac - 500 pieces
- oxidized tombac - 440 pieces
- silver 60 pieces

The obverse of the medal shows the GNEZDUN CIVITAS denarius with the image (likeness) of Bolesław Chrobry. The reproduced denarius is known in one copy, and is kept at the National Museum in Krakow. On the sides are the dates of the reign of CMXCII - MMXXV (992 - 1025).
On the reverse of the medal there is a centrally stylized "eagle" (bird), modeled on the denier PRINCES POLONIE (the prince of Poland) over the legendary Szczerbec - symbolizing the Kiev expedition, when, according to historical legends, Bolesław Chrobry, entering the walls of the city of Kiev by hitting the gate with his sword symbolically embraced it is in its possession. At the time of this impact, the sword chipped, which later became the reason for many legends and literary descriptions. Under the sword, the inscription: INCLITUS (famous). On the wide edge, there is a cross with four dots - a motif taken from the denarius BILI / SLAVS DUX INCLITVS (Bolesław Prince of the famous) and the inscription: BOLI / SLAVS / REX. The dot in the upper part of the model's rim is simplified by a solar sign - it symbolizes the successful development of Poland during the reign of this ruler. A decorative earring used by women in those days is an additional inner rim. the entire composition of the medal refers to the rich history of Chrobry coinage and the political activities of this ruler.
Characteristics of the ruler: Bolesław Chrobry was born in 966 or 967, the eldest son of Mieszko I and Dobrawa. At the beginning of his reign, he took care of the Prague bishop of Prague, Wojciech, who was expelled from Bohemia. He took advantage of his martyrdom at the hands of pagan people and his imminent canonization politically. In 1000, at a meeting in Gniezno at the tomb of Saint Adalbert with Emperor Otto III, he gained full power over the newly created church province with a center in Gniezno and was symbolically crowned. The actual coronation took place only in 1025. An attempt to conquer the Czech in 1003 caused a conflict with Germany, which ended in 1018 with the peace in Bautzen. In the same year, Chrobry undertook a victorious expedition to Kiev. He died in 1025 and was buried in the basement of the Poznań cathedral.
