The length of 1 1/2" will rest securely under any common nut length. And a thickness of 1/32" provides a significant amount of lift for most nuts that are resting too low. Plus you can stack as many shims as you like.
We offer brass because it won't compress, it transfers sound energy very efficiently from the nut to the neck and it adds a bit of it's own clear tone in the process. Basically a "no brainer". 6 shims per set.
