Antique silver plated Prince & Symmons Lion Lamp Works oil lamp.

Elegant and uncommon antique oil lamp made by the Prince & Symmons Lion Lamp works of London.  This piece is made of silver plated copper with a blown glass reservoir.  Probably manufactured in the late 1800s.  The wick raiser knob reads "Prince & Symmons Lion Lamp Works London, Manufactured in Germany" (the words "Prince" and "London" have been rubbed with use).  "Manufactured in Germany" suggests that at this stage the Prince & Symmons Lion Lamp Works were outsourcing some of their parts.

Overall a lovely looking piece.  Some losses to the silver plate where the copper shows through, and some indentations to the base - all shown in photographs.  The opaque white shade may be a later replacement, but still fits nicely.  Two small nicks to the rim of the shade - again photographed, take nothing away from the overall elegance.  Looks to require a Kosmos-style circular wick.

The swirled glass font looks to be in very good condition, and the whole thing is still a beautiful and elegant antique item of which very few are seen.

To the top of the chimney, the lamp stands 50cm high.  Without the shade or chimney, the lamp is 33cm to the shade holder.  The base diameter is 10.5cm and the widest diameter of the shade is about 16cm.
