The guitar is number 117 of only 250 ever made in Black. It is the rarest of the two finishes as the flat Green were produced in two runs of 250 making it 500 in the Olive Drab Green finish. Only the original run were actually signed by Chris and were the only ones made in the Memphis Factory the same as Chris Cornell's stage guitars as opposed to the Nashville plant which took over production in 2019.

The guitar has been well looked after and plays and sounds great and has been professionally set up. The clear knobs due to their see through nature have developed little cracks under the service which you don't really notice unless you look closely, it seems to be cause by the plastic shrinking around the tones puts, but they are secure. The guitar was purchased from Guitar Centre in Seattle on the 5th April 2014 and has been cherished ever since. Chris Cornell actually played this guitar as it was on the wall in the guitar centre when Soundgarden did a Guitar Centre video and you can see this very guitar on the wall behind them. I was told by the clerk Chris played this one but is sat with the Green one in the video. I will include the flyer from the shop along with the guitar. The guitar has been played and does have play wear from strumming on the finish and pick guard but this is all natural and gives it more rock 'n' roll character so you won't worry about playing it instead of it being a museum piece. An absolute joy to play, from the smooth satin finish, to the great sounding pick ups, gorgeous cream binding to the clear control knob, the guitar just oozes style and class with an unmistakable sound.

Known for his singing, songwriting, and guitar playing with groundbreaking Seattle grungers Soundgarden as well as his solo work and his contribution to later bands like Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog, Chris Cornell has been a major creative force in alternative music since the mid 1980s. In addition to his powerful four-octave vocal range, Cornell is a distinguished guitarist, and has long shown a love of Gibson electrics with some alternative twists.

The Chris Cornell ES-335 from Gibson’s Memphis division captures Cornell-certified looks and appointments in a great new ES-335 built with full Gibson quality and tradition behind it. The legendary and original thinline semi-hollow electric is given a clever tweak with a pair of Jason Lollar Lollartron® pickups, for that fat-but-jangly late ’50s to early ’60s humbucker-fired twang that fuels Chris Cornell’s tone. Your choice of an Olive Drab Green or Flat Black finish in nitrocellulose lacquer, with a Bigsby vibrato option on the former, extends the individuality of this unique artist’s model. From its superbly original tones to its stunningly distinctive looks, the Chris Cornell ES-335 is a powerful new performer from Gibson Memphis.

The Chris Cornell ES-335 is constructed in the image of the original “dot neck” 335s of the late 1950s, with a semi-hollow body made from laminated maple with a bound top and back and a solid maple center block. The result is the perfect marriage of the traditional archtop’s looks and sonic depth, and the solidbody’s sustain and resistance to feedback. The neck is made from solid MGNY, and topped with a bound fingerboard made from hand-selected ROSWOD, inlaid with simple pearloid dot position markers, while the headstock carries a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay.

While continuing in the ES-335’s humbucker tradition, the Chris Cornell ES-335 departs from the norm with a pair of Jason Lollar Lollartrons®, made in the style of the original Filter’Tron® humbuckers of the late ’50s and early ’60s for a distinctively twangy tone, but sized for a Gibson PAF-style humbucker mounting. The result is plenty of tonal depth and warmth from the semi-hollow design, but with a new clarity and crispness from the Lollartron® pickups, with excellent hum rejection. The pickups are routed through the traditional three-way switch and individual volume and tone controls and topped with clear knobs for a distinctive look.

This Olive Drab Green model carries a Bigsby vibrato and is equipped with high-quality Grover Rotomatic® tuners. All hardware is treated to Gibson’s proprietary VOS process for a gently aged vintage look.

Every Chris Cornell ES-335 comes protected in a black leatherette hardshell case with a plush charcoal lining.
