A 3 5/8" tall oval-shaped PURPLE AMETHYST colored antique TOOTH POWDER bottleThis is a very old DENTAL bottle, it came packed with tooth powder that was a sure-cure for the MOUTH TEETH GUMS BREATH THROAT TOOTH.   It is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a crude applied lip, dating it back to the 1800's.

A nicely embossed little bottle that once contained dentifrice or tooth powder. This is the same company that put out their famed Sarsaparilla and became millionaires from it as a result of the fact that it had absolutely no medicinal value so it was very cheaply produced, but their advertising campaigns made folks believe it could even prevent death, so away it sold.  This is a very early hand-blown bottle that was made all the way back in the 1800's.  It has a crudely applied lip that flows down over the neck.  Many of the collectors of antique dental bottles are dentists, building small collections of quality antique dental bottles to display in their waiting rooms and offices and this is a prime example of just this sort of thing as it says so simply, "TOOTH POWDER".   This bottle has been exposed to a high heat/light source to enrich the purple color that would naturally occur if exposed to sun light for a prolonged period of time.   With a clear glass object, you see through it, and the embossing reflects what ever patterns and colors are in the background.   Yet with this deep purple color, you are looking, not through the glass but right AT the embossing, which accentuates it and makes every detail stand out / jump right out at you.   With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst.   Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make it a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique!  Old dental bottles like this contained nothing more than a liquid or powdered tooth paste, yet they claimed that they had secret medicinal properties that, if used regularly, could cure any type of past or present disease of the mouth, gums, throat, even things that they still can't cure today.  A classic antique 'tooth powder / wash / dentifrice' style bottle, check it out!
