FOREWORD
David E. Baer grew up in Cheswick, Pennsylvania, about a mile from the massive B&LE bridge over the Allegheny River. He's a 1981 graduate of Springdale High School and some of his earliest railroad memories are watching Penn Central and Conrail trains pass through Cheswick on the Conemaugh Line. He also spent many hours watching B&LE trains in the area.
In the summer of 1985, while waiting for NKP Berkshire #765 in McKees Rocks, a chance meeting with local railfan John Jambor forever changed the way David looked at railroad photography. Mr. Jambor was kind enough to teach David what he knew about taking pictures and to show him around the Pittsburgh region, which helped to establish in David a firm foundation of the area's railroading.
David has been employed by General Nutrition's Leetsdale Warehouse since 1994. In July 2003, he married his wife Cathy and now has two daughters, Rachel and Sarah. His photography has appeared in many other Morning Sun Books: the Steel Mill Railroads series, the Railroad Critters in Color series, the Industrial Railroading In Color series, Union Railroad in Color, and Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad in Color.
