Speedfactory is proud to release their ideal camshaft for all you street/strip turbo D16 owners out there!

After testing many different D16 SOHC VTEC camshafts over the years, Speedfactory has found there was almost always a sacrifice at some point. Poor idle quality, loss of low rpm and/or midrange power, slower spool, and inefficiencies at certain high rpm ranges were all commonplace in most cams they tested.

Speedfactory set out to create the ideal street/strip turbo cam. One that has smooth stock idle quality & vacuum levels and provides increases in power across the board, from off idle to redline with faster spool and no sacrifice anywhere in the powerband. The new SpeedFactory Racing D16 SOHC VTEC Street Savage Camshaft is the result.

+60whp/+22tq gains over the stock camshaft were found in comparison testing at the same boost level on a typical turbo D16Z6 Vitara build setup, and 446whp/306tq was achieved on an optimized pump gas Vitara build.

  • SpeedFactory Racing camshafts are designed and manufactured using new chill-cast blanks for superior wear characteristics and to eliminate any possible issues with post heat treatments etc.
  • Upgraded valve springs are required.
  • For optimal results camshaft must be degreed in with an adjustable cam gear.
  • Special Note: An adjustable cam gear is necessary to achieve correct camshaft timing in a D16Y8 setup.
  • Dyno tuning to achieve optimal results with your setup is highly recommended. Results will vary based on the quality and combination of parts used and tuning.
  • Improperly installed camshafts can cause catastrophic damage.
  • High performance camshafts put greater stress on valvetrain components which will cause higher wear rates.
  • Make sure followers are in good condition, any scuffing or scoring will result in accelerated lobe and rocker wear.
  • NEVER USE AN IMPACT GUN TO INSTALL THE CAM GEAR!!! Use a properly calibrated torque wrench and torque cam gear bolt to 23lb-ft. Use a small drop of removable thread locker like BLUE Loctite on the bolt.

Initial engine startup procedure after installation of your new camshaft is critical – the majority of all issues arise in this period and have to do with inadequate lubrication, improper valve lash, or the use of followers that are not in good condition.

  • Make sure followers are in excellent condition, any scuffing or scoring will result in accelerated lobe and rocker wear
  • Make sure the entire cam and followers have a liberal amount of quality assembly lube applied
  • DO NOT let the engine start without first cranking for oil pressure if it is a new engine or just had an oil filter change
  • Make sure valve lash has been set properly with the engine cold
  • Use a quality engine oil with high levels of ZDDP
