X-style pistons are meant to be used on ALL Motor applications
These pistons are +2.0mm (or 0.080 inches) over bore. This is often referred to as "Eightty Thou Over". Many times when an engine is being rebuilt after a failure, the cylinder walls are slightly damaged, requiring the clinder hole to be bored out. This process removes any surface irregularities from the cylinder wall, exposing a clean true surface. This oversized piston is used to make up the specified difference of material removed by boring the hole bigger. Consult with your machine shop to determine what diameter your engine will be required to be bored to, then buy the corresponding oversized piston.
CP X-Style Pistons are designed for high compression naturally aspirated all-motor applications. Since rotating mass is critical in all-motor applications, these X-Style pistons undergo more machining processes than a shelf-stock CP Piston that allow them to be as light as possible without jeopardizing the structural integrity of the part. While some have used these pistons in forced induction and nitrous applications before with success, it is not recommended due to the material removed during lightening. We use CP Pistons here in the shop regularly, and have yet to run into any issues with them. You can count on CP to get it right, and provide you with a part that can hold up in extreme conditions. CP Pistons is one of the most trusted names in the industry, and for good reason. Their extensive shelf catalog provides the user with many of the options that you'd normally be resigned to going to a custom piston for. Their standard offering already includes Dual Pin Oilers - providing double the amount of oil to the wrist pin, radiused valve reliefs and the pin fitting final hone on the wrist pin bore. They even include an Accumulator Groove as a standard option. This provides a small pocket for the combustion gasses to collect after the first ring, reducing ring flutter and providing a better seal allowing more downward force on the piston A.K.A. - make more power. All pistons come balanced within one gram, include pin lock grooves and wrist pins at no additional charge. Brian Crower makes a really nice H-Beam Rod that will hold up to the power of most builds.
