Collectors will know what they're looking at. For anyone just browsing, 'Gaudy Welsh' is the modern name given to a particular type of mid-19thC pottery, produced by various manufacturers, in a distinctive colour palette and design style, of which these trios are typical. Cheaper pieces were earthenware, the better were china. Gaudy Welsh was cottage ware - popular with ordinary folk - and often assembled a piece at a time as money allowed, sometimes from door to door salesmen. Today, the interesting history and cheerful design appeals to collectors and decorators alike.
