The badge features a red border with white lettering

and a Red Cross on white background at the centre bottom.

In the centre is the Italian flag.

Around outer edge 'DESIGNED & MADE BY ALFRED E. S. STOKES PITT ST SYDNEY'

CONDITION - In good original used condition and showing a little wear consistent with age and use.

A little History:

Fundraising badges like this one were produced to promote and support the work of the Italian Red Cross and to allow the wearer to show their patriotism and support for their Italian Allies during World War 1.

The Italian Red Cross Day appeal in 1918 was supported by the people of Port Macquarie with a fund raising day on Saturday 29 June.

A local committee was formed to organise the day's events and to appoint collectors for the appeal.

 The Red Cross tea rooms opened all day, and there were four stalls in Horton Street selling produce, sweets, ice-cream, and flowers and pot plants.

During the afternoon children performed the maypole dance on Town Green and Mrs C. Dick dressed in an Italian costume took collections. 

The day's activities including donations netted about £55.
