1870. Hardcover. The book is a history of the Welsh 69th Regiment
from its formation in 1756 to its campaign (Mahratta) in 1819. Frontispiece of
the Battle of St Vincent Feb 14, 1797 Chapter titles include: (1) Formation –
America, Gibraltar, and Rodney’s Victory over De Grasse. (2) French Revolution –
Toulon, Corsica, Battle of St Vincent, and Holland. (3) – India, Vellore. (4) –
Travancore, Isle of France and Java. (5) – Service of the Second Battalion. (6)
– Campaign of Waterloo. Lastly there are assorted letters, orders succession of
field officers, stations served and army lists. 130 pages with a b/w copy of a
photo of General Wm Butler. I am confident this copy belonged to Charles
Herbert Davis Cass. He served in the 1870s-1880s. Pencil notes of his
promotions and pen notations of some of his stations from 1878-1888. The covers
have wear to the edges and age soiling on the boards. Spine ends are worn.
Hinges are intact and some mild internal wear. (See scans).
